Much decorative and folk art is based on a small number of basic shapes and lines, combined to create a great variety of borders and patterns, as well as stylized flowers, birds, landscape elements and more. In this class we will learn these basic shapes and motifs, and principles of rhythmic combining. We will use them to invent and draw borders, patterns, scrolls, and many other forms and designs. Then we will move on to learn fundamental brush strokes and techniques with to create colorful paintings and decorated objects. To first class bring: pencils, drawing paper and/or sketchbook.
